COMPANY HISTORY

79 Years of Experience in the Auto Collision Industry

Toby’s Body & Fender was founded in 1945 by Clyde “Toby” Tobiason. After returning from service in the Navy during World War II, Toby decided to follow in his father’s footsteps by opening his own business. Toby’s father was in the tire business, so it seemed a natural for him to follow in the auto industry, however Toby’s choice was to open a body and fender shop. Toby’s Body & Fender quickly became known for its quality work on custom cars and its collision repair work. Since that time, Toby’s has turned its attention toward the collision industry and is currently well known for its attention to customer satisfaction and quality auto repair.

In 1975 Toby sold the business to his son Bob. Since Bob had been involved in the business at a very early age, the transition was seamless. During this time, Bob has kept up the highest standard in regards to quality and workmanship on every vehicle repaired in our shop. Toby’s Body & Fender exceeds the requirements to be an I-CAR Gold certified repair facility. We are also a AAA approved repair facility, and have been awarded the top shop honors for the past two years. In keeping up with current technology, in 2006 we added onto our building and installed a Nova Verta Velocity Cure down draft paint booth. At the time this was the only paint booth in Spokane built with waterborne paint in mind. With environmental concerns in mind, we began using waterborne paints in May 2008.

On January 1, 2010, Toby’s Body & Fender entered its third generation of Tobiason ownership. The youngest of the family, Keith bought into the business. Keith served as the general manager and Bob served as the production manager . As Bob did, Keith has grown up in the business. He has served in a management position for several years and for the past five years has been the head painter. He has been a champion for new technology and customer satisfaction. His goal is to surpass the outstanding attention to detail that has been set forth by both his grandfather and father.

In January of 2017 the final phase of the buyout happened and Bob "retired". Haha. To date we have made many strides in keeping up with the modern cars and their ever changing technologies. With the addition of an in house alignment machine, state of the art spot welder, approved MIG welders, scan tools, calibration machine, and updated computerized frame measuring system, we are doing all we can to stay a head of the curve.

This is a very exciting time for Toby’s Body & Fender. We appreciate your support of our three generation family owned and operated business. And we would like to thank you for any recommendations you send our way.
